◄ ~ Godzilla Minus One review ~ ►

In what might be a first for me, I am writing a review of a film as SOON as I have left the building, sat my ass down at my desk, and poured myself a drink. Not often do films inspire me to do anything beyond maybe stew and ruminate on the film for 24 hours before coming to some form of conclusion. This film is something different in that regard. This is more of a stream-of-consciousness post-watch review with some hastily-Googled information sprinkled in for both flavor and context.

Godzilla Minus One manages to walk a very fine line between two separate worlds. It is a drama about post-WWII Japan, showing the after-effects of war both physically and psychologically. It’s also a daikaiju film that has to be effective in visual presentation to replicate the scale and weight of a large, vaguely dinosaur-ish monster. Both of these aspects have to be done well to sell a “complete package”, as too often, priorities and resources can slide, leaving one part of the equation lacking in comparison. Thankfully, this film succeeds in both. Consider this my recommendation to go and see it, if you wish to remain spoiler free.

8.5/10.

This now is, however, where I wish to discuss aspects of the film in detail. I am unable to do this without spoilers.
